There was much excitement going into last
year but the Chicago Bears did not live
up to expectations. They finally had
their franchise quarterback in Jay Cutler
who was acquired from the Denver Broncos
for a number of draft picks along with quarterback
Kyle Orton. The offense line line played
poorly and could not pass protect or generate
running room for the likes of second year
back Matt Forte. Cutler led the league in
interceptions and Forte averaged less than
4 yards per carry. Overall the depth chart
for the wide receiver position is unproven
with Devin Hester and Johnny Knox having
the most upside. With no legitimate
number one receiver Jay Cutler will have
to gain confidence in receivers like Hester,
Knox, and tight end Greg Olsen. Coach Lovie
Smith needs to have a big year or else he
will be out of Chicago as the Bear coach.
Bringing in offensive guru Mike Martz should
help the Bears offense gain more explosive
plays. The scheme is very complicated so
there may be a learning curve that is a
bit longer. Chicago fans are always passionate
about their sports. The new Soldier Field provides
a nice mix of amenities and sight lines
for fans. Seats range from general seating,
media deck, to the expansive Caddy club.
Historically Bears fans love their defense.
The defensive line played average last year
and certainly not at the high level that
took the franchise to the big game. Defensive
end Alex Brown is no longer with the team
and Brian Urlacher is coming off a wrist
injury. In terms of offense
there needs to be a consistent running game
so Jay Cutler can excel at his position.
Devin Hester has a lot of upside and his
speed is unmatched so with experience he
can become an elite receiver. He is one
of the great punt/kick off returners in
the history of the league. His raw speed
is something to behold so as he get more
football knowledge his impact will keep
rising in other facets.
This iconic franchise is a brand in itself
that is world renowned. The division will
be very tough this campaign as there are
three clubs with legit chances to capture
the crown. Most people peg the Green Bay
Packers as the favorites. The Minnesota
Vikings have so many injuries so it will
be tough for them to repeat. The Detroit
Lions have alot of young talent and head
coach Jim Schwartz has his players buy in
to his philosophy. With some big free agent
signings such as Julius Peppers the Bears
hope to become the monsters of the midway
again. The unit has to play at a high level
considering their divisional opponents offensive
firepower. Green Bay has the most complete
offense and if their offensive line does
not play well this season the Bears defense
will put so much pressure on Aaron Rodgers.
The time is now for the Chicago
Bears as the postseason has eluded the franchise
for a few years. The team has the a solid
chance to move deep into the postseason.
If they can win the NFC North they will
be assured at least the third seed with a
chance for the second seed. Any visiting
team will have to deal with the tough elements
of the Windy City and Solider Field. With
the offensive line blocking schemes now
fixed they now have versatility to run and
pass.
