Season
Hunter
Hillenmeyer concussions impacting Linebacking
Unit
Week 1
Hunter Hillenmeyer was placed on season-ending
injured reserve on September 14th with persistent
effects from a concussion. As sn eight-year
veteran from Vanderbilt is one of the key
cogs in the Bears linebacking unit. He suffered
a concussion in the third preseason game
with the Arizona Cardinals on Aug. 28 with
a helmet collision. Hillenmeyer has said
he has had multiple concussions.
"With my history, I've had a few of
these so, as hard as it was to stomach after
ending up on IR after playing one half of
one game I respect their decision to err
on the side of caution."Now the starting
linebacking unit consists of Brian Urlacher,
Lance Briggs, and Pisa Tinoisamoa. Brian
Iwuh and Nick Roach make up the back ups.
Overall the Bears defense looks pretty solid.
Julius Peppers had a major impact in week
one as the defensive line looks like the
real deal. The Bears secondary needs to
protect against giving up big plays down
the field.

Bears Go Into Big D and
Improve to 2-0
Week 2
The Bears made a strong statement upsetting
the Dallas Cowboys 27-20 to improve their
record to 2-0. Jay Cutler threw three touchdown
passes and the defense forced three turnovers
. Cutler completed 21 of 29 passes for 277
yards and three touchdowns and a 136.7 passer
rating. A cause for concern could be the
running game as the Bears averaged only
2 yards per carry on just 19 touches total
for a total yardage of 38. Matt Fore rushed
for only 29 yards on ten carries. Backup
Chester Taylor only rushed fro six yards
on four carries. The passing game is more
efficient than last year and it may take
some time for the running game to get going.
Offensive coordinator Mike Martz loves to
have his running backs get involved in the
passing game and Forte is proof of that
as he has scored touchdowns in consecutive
games. Everyone knows Marshall Faulk became
a hall of famer playing in Martz's offense.
The next two games will be in primetime
television so the national stage will be
on the Chicago Bears.

Bears win grudge match
against Packers
Week 3
The Chicago Bears defeated the Green Bay
Packers in primetime on Monday Night Football
in a game that was marred by penalties and
erratic play. In other words it was not
pretty but the Bears will take the win 20-17.
The Packers had a franchise record 18 penalties
for 152 yards lost. The Bears offense struggled
so the rest of the team tried to pick up
the slack. Devin Hester had a 62 yard punt
return, his first since 2007. Brian Urlacher
and Lance Briggs combined on a hit of Packer
receiver James Jones to force a fumble that
Tim Jennings recovered - that led to Robbie
Gould 19 yard field goal to get the win.
Defensive end Julius Peppers had a major
impact on the game causing quarterback pressures,
holding calls, and even blocking a field
goal. The Bears are still struggling to
move the ball on the ground and they are
not committing to it either. Matt Forte
only carried the football 11 times Monday
night for a paltry 29 yards. Jay Cutler
was the leading rusher with 37 yards. Next
up is the New York Giants in prime time
once again. The Giants are angry after the
Titans loss so they desperately need a win.

Bears get beaten up on
offensive line versus Giants
Week 4
The Sunday night week 4 game against the
New York Giants turned out to be a nightmare
for the Chicago Bears. Jay Cutler endured
constant pressure from the Giants defense
as they sacked him nine times in the first
half knocking him out of the game with a
concussion. The running game could not muster
anything all night either with a grand total
of 59 yards. The seven step drops Jay Cutler
was taking did nothing to stop the Giants
pass rush as he held onto the football way
too long. The Bears really need to establish
a running game or else Cutler will not survive
and the defense will get worn out. The final
score was 17-3 and the total amount of yards
the offense gained was a paltry 110. The
offensive line needs to play better or else
this season will be long and brutal.

Bears have convincing victory on the road
Week 5
With Jay Cutler sidelined due to a concussion the Chicago Bears defense played
excellent and the running game finally came
alive in a convincing 23-6 victory over
the Carolina Panthers on the road. Matt
Forte rushed for 166 yards on only 22 carries
with a long run of 68 yards. He also had
two touchdowns on the ground. The Bears
defense had five sacks and forced one interception
and two fumbles. Julius Peppers had a major
impact on the game with countless quarterback
hurries of Jimmy Clausen along with four
tackles and one interception. The defense
only allowed 147 yards total. Overall it
was a solid road victory over the Carolina
Panthers and now the club improves to 4-1.
Next game up is against the Seattle Seahawks.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Lackluster performance
versus Seahawks results in Loss
Week 6
After a solid road victory last week at
the Carolina Panthers the Bears played uninspired
football in losing to the Seattle Seahawks
at home. Once again the pass protection
was awful as Jay Cutler was sacked multiple
times. The running game was nonexistent
as well rushing for paltry numbers. The
Seahawks seemingly started every drive in
good field position and basically wore out
the Bears in convincing matter. There was
nothing lucky what so ever about the win.
If it was not for a Devin Hester punt return
near the end of the game the margin would
have been wider. The Bears lack knowledge
of basic offensive line blocking fundamentals.
If they cannot fix their problems Jay Cutler
will not survive and any chance of winning
the division will go up in smoke. They better
be focused for the Washington Redskins before
their bye week.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Turnovers cost the Chicago
Bears dearly
Week 7
In a game marred by interceptions and fumbles
the Chicago Bears blew many opportunities
in a 17-14 loss at home to the Washington
Redskins. Jay Cutler threw four interceptions
and had a costly fumble at the goal line.
The goal line fumble could have been challenged
by head coach Lovie Smith but for some reason
he did nothing. Cutler was also sacked four
times. A good performance by the defense
was wasted by the inept offfense. The Bears
are now tied with the Green Bay Packers
for the division lead. Any talk of the postseason
should be stopped. The Bears go into the
bye week losing two straight games at home.
